The Territory Tellers, a 501(c)(3) state-wide organization dedicated to keeping the art of oral storytelling alive and thriving, is hosting its 18th annual “Spirit of Oklahoma Storytelling Festival” on June 7 & 8 at Rose State College in Midwest City OK. The festival includes workshops and concerts, and provides many ways to connect with one another, enjoy stories, and learn about storytelling.

The festival activities are focused primarily for adults of all ages and older teens who enjoy stories and are curious about storytelling. Activities will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday night with an Informal gathering of attendees to meet and greet storytellers and each other and participate in story activities.

Saturday morning at 9 a.m., Territory Tellers members will present a workshop that demonstrates how to present several types of stories to an audience. Following the workshop will be a “story swap.” A story swap is an informal group of people telling short stories. This is an excellent session for beginning storytellers to try out their stories.

Lunch is available and must be pre-purchased by May 23 when one is registering.  It is a box lunch with a drink and dessert, catered by the college. You can also choose to lunch on your own in one of the many restaurants in Midwest City. During lunch, attendees are welcome to practice sharing a story in an “open microphone” style event called “Pails and Tales”.

Starting off the afternoon will be an afternoon concert of stories at 1:30 p.m.. Immediately after that will be a poetry concert. Everyone is invited to the Territory Tellers’ annual membership meeting beginning at 3:30 p.m.

After a break for dinner, activities restart at 6:15 p.m. with a tribute to members who have passed away this year. The evening story concert will begin immediately after the tribute. The concert will close this year’s event with Territory Tellers own professional tellers presenting an evening of exceptional stories, fun, and entertainment for all.
